Harvest Swoon
It is now the best season.
I recently pulled a Tarot spread for Fall based on Lindsay Mack’s Autumn spread, and wowza that shit slapped! All signs are directing me to view the world from a more passive perspective, to reconnect with my body’s needs and to just trust in the validity of my own existence. That and like… buy new fall makeup. The cards, they really told me that! Tarot is a wild ride, and I highly recommend adding it to your self care repertoire if you have the inclination.
Typically, I pull one card (or more recently multi-card spreads) every other day and journal about what it brings up for me. Sometimes I consider a specific prompt when I’m shuffling the deck, ex. “What do I need today?” Or “How can I move forward with peace?” Mostly, I just ask the cards what they have for me in general with no question in mind.
I use the book Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom if I want to really understand the history of the card I pull, but lately I’ve just been taking inspiration from what my gut says (which is great because I think that’s what’s “supposed” to be happening). Other great IG accounts for tarot are wildsoulhealing - thejessicadore and indiedeckreview.
What else… lately Cameron and I have started doing Classic Movie Mondays. We switch off who gets to pick and so far we’ve watched Bull Durham (me), The Exorcist (Cameron), Vertigo (me), and The Game (Cameron). My next pick is The Umbrellas of Cherbourg! It’s been a super fun way to start the week, and I’m watching stuff I normally wouldn’t which is always a plus because I really get stuck in ruts.
Speaking of ruts, Below Deck Mediterranen is the second best show I’ve ever seen in my life (#1 = Real Housewives of Potomac). Why did no one tell me?? Basically you get to see the workplace drama of beautiful, drunk singles paired with the antics of the super rich. I’ve literally never wanted anything more.
Also, please listen to Wokelahoma for the good of your soul. Changed.my.life.
Finally before I throw some hot links at yah, I’ve started a new thing! As this newsletter indicates, I really like buying things so I’m trying out a new gifting service. Basically if you want gift recommendations from me, fill out this survey and I’ll email you three perfect gifts in a range of prices. It’s a win-win for everyone because I can get still the dopamine rush of shopping while trying to save more money.

Books:
Where The Crawdads Sing (naturalistic mystery that was just ok)
Miracle Creek (courtroom drama that was intense)
Save Me The Plums (food memoir that was fan-fucking-tastic)
Audiobooks:
I never listen to audiobooks, but recently I got sick of podcasts and thought I'd give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised! They are so fun, especially when read by the author.
The Last Black Unicorn (funny, sad, great)
Troublemaker (scientology, daytime tv drama, what more could you ask for)
We Have Always Lived in the Castle (spooky and fun for fall!)
TV/Movies:
Drop Dead Gorgeous (just... perfect)
Long Shot (why wasn't this bigger?! funny, sexy, and heartwarming)
Trainwreck (rewatched this, and yah know... it's good!)
Ready or Not (horror/thriller, loved, very fun with some great laughs)
Hustlers (ICONIC)
Derry Girls (hilarious Irish coming of age)
Diagnosis (mystery illnesses solved (sometimes) by the crowd)
Inside Bill’s Brain (interesting look at a smart dude)
Products:
Not to alarm you, but I have THE product combination for long, full lashes. Start by lash curling with whatever you have around, then apply Benefit They're Real Tinted Lash Primer (great on its own for a more subtle look). Follow with Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara for the vavavoom. You will thank me. I'll never do anything else with my lashes again.
Also, I'm starting to save products on my IG story if you want the archive of reccos!
Beauty Blender (as I'm leveling up my makeup game, this is a real must have)
Wander Beauty On-The-Glow in Berry Whisper/Nude Glow (umm it's fine, won't buy again)
Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate (loving the sample size, makes my skin really soft)
Dior Lip Glow (AMAZING, a must-buy in light pink)
Neutrogena Hydro Boost (great for the price point, going into Fall gotta slather on moisture)
Milk Matte Bronzer (got the mini to experiment with contouring, it's ok)
Dr. Jart Cicapair (I've been dealing with redness on my cheeks and nose, and this is great under makeup)
Ren Sensitive Skin Kit (loving the cleanser and anti-redness serum)
